I have developed, throughout my four years in the teaching program, different professional competencies suggested by the Teacher Training guide from the MELS. As teachers, we constantly improve and learn. The following part describes the different competencies I feel the most comfortable with. A list of examples to why I feel comfortable with those competencies is also listed.
2. To communicate clearly in the language of instruction, both orally and in writing, using correct grammar, in various contexts related to teaching.
As an elementary level student, I used to be very interested in English, even though we didn’t get to learn it before the second year of the second cycle. I remember buying English books, trying to understand the meaning of the story by comparing it to the French version. As I grew up, I tried using English as much as I could (tv, discussions with family, etc). By doing so, I feel like I have acquired a certain level of proficiency in the English language. As an English teacher, I feel like it is very important to have a close to native-like proficiency in the language. By doing so, I feel like one looks more competent and can be a good reference for his or her students.
During my internship, I try to have my students develop their proficiency in the English language by constantly talking in English. I believe that teaching English in English is very important and I give my students as many opportunities as possible to talk. I try to talk myself and have them answer back but I also create different situations where students will be asked to talk. By doing so, they get to hear the language, as well as speak in, which makes it easier to understand and be competent in the language.

8. To integrate information and and communications technologies (ICT) in the preparation and delivery of teacher/learning activities and for instructional management and professional development purposes.
We’re in an era where students are born with a computer in their hands. Getting students’ interest is harder every year as there are so many distractions from the outside world. Technology surely has made our lives easier but it is a double-edged sword. It is easier to get students’ attention because of all the different stimulus they are used to outside of school. I believe that technology can be used in a good way in the classroom, in order to get students’ attention, as well as to deliver the content that needs to be delivered.
In order to use ICT in the classroom, a teacher needs to be able to use them appropriately. Planning in general is important but I feel like it is even more important when addressing ICT. It is easy for technology to stop working and a teacher using ICT always need to have a backup plan.
As a student, I worked part time in order to pay for university. I’ve been working for over two years as an Internet Technician for Télébec, in Val d’Or. Working for a communications company helped me develop competency 8. I have been in touch with different technologies and have been able to test them before they could even come out on the market. By doing so, I was able to analyze what could be used in the classroom and how I could use them in order to distribute material appropriately.

12. To demonstrate ethical and responsible professional behaviour in the performance of his or her duties.
I believe that showing ethic in the performance of one's duties is not only to adhere to the different rules and regulations of the system. As a student and future teacher myself, I try to always dress appropriately during the time I spend in schools. As a model for students, it is important to preserve our image, in and out of school. As so, I try to keep a positive attitude at all time. Keeping my image, outside of school, is very important to me. It is possible, through the different activities we conduct outside of school, to be recognized by people (colleagues, parents, students, etc.) By keeping a professional attitude outside of school, we transpose it in the classroom. People will see us as true professionals and our integrity as teachers will be preserved.
I believe that students' privacy is also something that needs to be preserved. As teachers, we constantly work with students with problems, and get to exchange on different students' problems. It is of primordial importance to stay professional and avoid talking about students out of schools, or in school when the context is not appropriate. The information we have about students needs to stay confidential and doesn't need to leave the classroom context.
Being on time is an important value for me. As a professional, we have many people relying on us to be on time, everyday. By being late, we show a bad image of ourselves and also risk the safety of our students. Through my different internships, I have shown that I can be on time by never being late to give a class, even when some unusual conditions would happen. It is important to adapt ourselves in order to be someone who can be trusted, and who we can rely on.
